Description

A major in Theology at La Sierra University fosters scholarship, critical thinking, and responsible discernment, which are essential for pastoral formation in the church and the world. The Theology program consists a comprehensive set of courses designed to meet entrance requirements for various graduate and professional schools. It encompasses all the necessary practical preparation and training for ministry, as part of the Pre-Seminary Program, and fulfills the requirements of professional studies in the HMS Richards Divinity School, the Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary, and many other seminaries or theological schools.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Show knowledge and proficiency of different methodological approaches to understanding religion while identifying their strengths & weaknesses.
  2. Identify the unique understanding of the history, content, and meaning of Christian faith from a Seventh-day Adventist perspective.
  3. Summarize familiarity with other religious traditions and be able to engage in informed discussion of their texts, beliefs, history, and practice.Share familiarity with the history of Christianity from its formation through its transformation.
  4. Demonstrate a proficient understanding of the theological foundations of Christian ministry.
  5. Assess various theories, concepts, and materials (e.g., written texts, oral reports, archaeological data) central to the academic study of religion/theology.
  6. Demonstrate research on a topic that integrates classroom exposure with original investigation in one area of theological studies.
  7. Develop respect for various perspectives of different faith communities.
  8. Develop an informed faith commitment, and avoid simplistic answers to complex questions.
