Students studying fine art gain basic experience in the artistic processes of several different studio areas. Candidates choose a primary area of concentration from painting, ceramics, printmaking, and textiles. The secondary emphasis may be chosen from painting, ceramics, printmaking, textiles, drawing, photography, sculpture, or graphic design. Many students plan to become commercial artists or art teachers.

A minor typically consists of taking a portion of the classes required for a major in that same subject. To get an idea of what you would be studying, check out the corresponding major. The median annual wage for craft and fine artists was $52,910 in May 2023. The median wage is the wage at which half the workers in an occupation earned more than that amount and half earned less. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $27,110, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $129,440.

- How to demonstrate skills in a range of techniques and media.
- How to communicate concepts through effective use of design and color.
- How to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of visual culture in relation to historical movements and works.
- How to practice effective oral and written communication skills.
